COLLEGE TRANSFER PROGRAMS
Associate in Arts (A.A.) (A10100)
Associate in Science (A.S.) (A10400)
Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A) (A10200) |
The Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Science (A.S.) degree programs are designed to prepare students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Students are able to complete the course-work equivalent of the first two years of four-year bachelor's degree programs and, when they graduate, to transfer to four-year institutions with junior status. The Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees are recognized and accepted by American colleges and universities as the standard college transfer degrees. Both degree programs require students to complete a 65 semester-hour credit (SHC) program of courses. Each program includes 44 SHC of General Education Core transfer courses, 20 SHC of other required and elective transfer courses, and a 1 SHC orientation/study skills course. Both 65 SHC curriculums include a planned program of about 20 courses in English composition, humanities and fine arts, natural sciences, mathematics, and social and behavioral sciences. This course work provides a foundation for further study in students' major fields when they transfer. Full-time students, who normally take five or six courses each semester, can graduate in four semesters, or two years. An associate degree is a mark of educational achievement. The Associate in Arts and Associate in Science curriculums are excellent general studies programs for students who want to graduate with two-year degrees and begin careers in business, industry, and other fields. Students may also take college transfer courses for pleasure and enrichment as "special students" not seeking degrees.
