BCC HONORS DR. JOSEPH A. GORE

Supply, NC – Brunswick Community College (BCC) hosted more than 100 friends and colleagues of Dr. Joseph A. Gore during a ceremony in his honor Tuesday, June 03, 2008. Dr. Gore was inducted into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which is the highest recognition a civilian can receive in the state of North Carolina. Dr. Gore was unable to attend the event due to illness.

Dr. Gore has volunteered with Brunswick Community College for 10 years. His role as Special Assistant to the President includes various fundraising projects for student scholarships. Dr. Gore was instrumental in bringing the DESTINY science program to Brunswick County, which helped introduce the public schools to a Biotechnology curriculum. Dr. Gore’s friend, Luther Bell spoke about this effort during Tuesday’s event. Mr. Bell said, “Joe Gore worked tirelessly to bring the modern scientific equipment into classrooms because he believed in what it would mean to the students.” Ed Gore, long time friend of Dr. Joseph Gore, spoke about his friend’s contributions through his volunteerism. Mr. Gore called his friend a true leader. He said, “We’ll always be grateful for your friendship, leadership and contribution to our county, state and country.” Dr. Gore’s commitment to the students motivated the College to create a scholarship in his name. . Gore’s service goes beyond his years at BCC. Dr. Gore is also the Governor’s appointee to the North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission. He is President of the South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club and serves on the Advisory Board for the Brunswick County Division of Parks and Recreation.
