Department of Public Safety
The Brunswick Community College (BCC) Department of Public Safety/Police is a sanctioned, full-service law enforcement agency. BCC Police Officers have full power of arrest within the jurisdictional areas of the campus and adjoining streets or highways. They receive their agency commission and authority via NC General Statutes. BCC Police Officers provide many services to the campus community that promotes safety and security.
BCC has adopted the Blackboard Connect as part of its Emergency Notification Plan. Blackboard Connect allows BCC administrative personnel to notify faculty, staff and students quickly by sending text, phone and e-mail messages should an emergency situation occur that may threaten the college environment.

Campus Watch is a program designed to alert the campus community that a formal process for reporting crimes and safety hazard exists on campus. Individuals can report incidents to the Police Office in person or phone: 910-755-7330 (extension 7330 by any campus phone). If you want to remain anonymous you may call 910-755-7410 (extension 7410 by any campus phone) or by e-mail: tipline@brunswickcc.edu.
These emergency call boxes provide users with a simple way to call for emergency assistance. Press the large red button and speak clearly into the telephone. The call is automaticallty sent to "911". This two-way call box is located at parking lot 7 and the Dinah E. Gore Fitness and Aquatics Center pool area.
Crisis on campus can be the result of violent, disruptive, or criminal behavior. Everyone is asked to assist in making our college a safe place by being alert to suspicious situations or persons and promptly reporting them to BCC Police. This would include but not limited to suspicious or threatening behavior, suicidal tendencies, severe mood changes among fellow students, e-mails/web-blogs/texts that you may have received or seen, or any behavior you feel may be a threat or a security issue for you, others, or the institution.
For an emergency dial “911” or dial “9-911” from a campus phone. The Brunswick County Emergency Services center (911) will immediately alert BCC Police by radio, telephone, and pager. For non-emergencies, dial 910-755-7330 (office) or 910 754-1007 (pager). To leave information anonymously dial 910-755-7410 (for non-emergencies) and leave a message on the recorded line or by e-mailing the following: tipline@brunswickcc.edu. All e-mails and phone messages are checked several times daily and all information will be addressed promptly.

Colleges and universities are required to provide crime statistics relative to a number of specific categories of crimes. These categories include murder, rape, sexual assault (including both forcible and non-forcible offenses), burglary, aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, liquor law violations, drug violations, weapons, arson, and hate crimes relative to the aforementioned crimes. Statistics are published by October 1st, of the fall semester, and include the past three calendar years. They are distributed to students and employees and/or are available upon request.

Lost and found items should be checked for or turned in to the BCC Police Office.
It is unlawful for any person to carry, openly or concealed any weapon on any of the BCC sites. Exceptions are made for those students or employees whose training (such as Basic Law Enforcement Training) or job requires that a weapon be carried.
In accordance with the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1998, the Drug Free Schools and Communities’ Act of 1989 (Public Law 101-226), as well as Underage Drinking Laws and the laws of the state of North Carolina, the college has endorsed the following drug and alcohol policy:
The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance or alcohol is prohibited while in the workplace, on college premises, or as part of any college-sponsored activities. (Except for special permitted events)
BCC does not condone the possession, use, manufacture, or distribution of illegal substances or drug paraphernalia of any kind in any amount. Students in violation of this policy may be jeopardizing their own well-being as well as the well-being of the college community.

BCC does not maintain a list of sex offenders; this information is maintained by The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and can be accessed through its website - http://sexoffender.ncdoj.gov.
Students and employees needing counseling assistance (domestic violence, alcohol/drug, grief counseling etc.) may obtain referrals through Student Services (910-755-7320), Brunswick County Mental Health (910-253-2456) or BCC Police Department (910-755-7330).
Traffic regulations of the State of North Carolina are applicable to all persons who drive a motor vehicle on the campus.
All students are required to register their vehicles and to display a current parking permit. Student parking permits may be obtained at the BCC Police office in Building A. Parking is permitted in designated areas. Traffic tickets will be given, and fines levied, for violations of traffic regulations, which are explained in the Student Handbook. Certain spaces in Lots 2, 5, and 6 are for faculty/staff and visitor parking only. These areas are clearly designated by signs. Student vehicles are not permitted to park in these spaces.
