| Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards |
Federal regulations require that institutions establish standards of satisfactory academic progress. All financial aid recipients are required to maintain satisfactory progress in order to receive financial aid. These standards are as follows:
1. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA each semester.
2. Students must pass 67% of all academic course attempted during the semester.
3. Students must meet the time frame requirements for satisfactory progress.
4. Students who habitually withdraw from classes will be determined not to be making satisfactory progress and may have their financial aid terminated.
5. Students who withdraw from courses who have received financial aid may owe a refund to the source of the award.
6. In order to receive financial aid, a student must be making satisfactory progress, regardless of whether he or she has previously received financial aid.
7. Eligible students may receive Federal Pell Grants during the time necessary to complete the student's first baccalaureate degree.
8. Students who return to BCC after an absence of one semester or more will have their academic status carried forward.
9. Students must be formally admitted to an eligible program of study at BCC and have all required documents submitted to the Financial Aid Office (without error and on time) as deemed necessary by the Financial Aid Office.
At the beginning of each semester, students are required to have each of their instructors sign an attendance form (provided by the Financial Aid Office) stating that the student attended each class at least once. Students will be allowed two program changes after the initial one. Information regarding Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards is given to each financial aid recipient and is available in the Financial Aid Office |
 |
| Reinstatement of Aid |
| A student who becomes ineligible for financial aid has the opportunity to appeal. The appeal must be made in writing within ten days of termination and submitted along with proper documentation to the Financial Aid Office, Brunswick Community College, P.O. Box 30, Supply, N.C. 28462. The appeal will be submitted to the Financial Aid Committee for consideration. |
 |
| Repayment Policy |
A student receiving any type of financial aid must notify the
Brunswick Community College Financial Aid Office if he/she
drops a course or withdraws from school. If the student
owes a repayment of some of the aid received, the Financial
Aid Officer will determine the amount to be repaid.
Examples of repayment are available in the Financial Aid
Office. Students owing repayments will not be eligible for
further financial aid at Brunswick Community College until the money is repaid. |
 |
| Withdrawals from the College |
| If a student withdraws from the College after beginning attendance and is receiving Title IV funds (federal grants or loans), it is possible that some funds will have to be repaid to the United States Department of Education. This is determined by the number of days in the semester and the number of days of class attendance. If the amount disbursed to the student is more than the amount earned as calculated by federal regulations, unearned funds have to be returned. The change to the law makes clear that Title IV funds are awarded to a student under the assumption that the student will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded. |

|
| Financial Aid |
The primary purpose of the financial aid program at Brunswick Community College is to provide assistance to students who, without aid, would be unable to begin or continue their college education.
Types of financial aid include grants, scholarships, and on-campus work-study jobs. Grants, like scholarships, in most cases are awards, which do not have to be repaid. Student work-study employees receive an hourly wage. To be eligible for financial assistance, entering students must meet all admissions requirements. Returning students must be in good academic standing and must not exceed the maximum enrollment time frame for graduation from their program of study.
Students needing financial assistance should contact their high school guidance counselor or the Brunswick Community College Financial Aid Office for information and applications. |
 |
| Applying for Financial Aid |
Applicants must fill out a BCC Financial Aid Form, and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), designating Brunswick Community College as recipient of the needs analysis. BCC's Title IV school code number is 015285. Specific aid programs may require additional forms. (The forms should be completed as soon after January 1 as possible.)
Students who complete the application process by November 15 for spring semester and June 15 for fall semester will be able to register on registration day and use the Pell Grant. Students who do not meet these deadlines will have to use some other form of payment until their Pell Grant is approved. |
 |
| Verification |
Students will need to provide federal tax forms, W2s, and other income information prior to being awarded aid.
Awards/Notification/Deadlines
Students will be notified by mail if they are eligible for financial aid. The award letter must be returned to the Financial Aid Office within two weeks of notification.
Financial Aid Orientation
Beginning with the Class of 1999, financial aid recipients must attend an orientation session. These sessions are required. They provide the financial aid recipient with valuable information. Most sessions will be scheduled prior to Fall and Spring Registration. |
