Donor and Scholar Luncheon hosted by BCC Foundation

 

SUPPLY, NC – Brunswick Community College’s Donor and Scholar Luncheon was held at the Virginia Williamson Event Center on October 29, 2013. The event consisted of donors and scholarship recipients totaling over 120 attendees. The 2013 Donor of the Year Award was presented to Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Mallory, Jr.

Dr. Susanne Adams opened the event with a welcome followed by Teresa Shaw, one of the College’s non-traditional students studying Health Information.  Shaw spoke about how it is never too late to receive a college education.  She was also awarded with the Brunswick Novant Medical Center Endowment for Health Care Scholarship and the Brunswick Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary’s Brunswick Hospital Volunteer Scholarship.  Carolyn Felton, BCC Foundation Board Vice-Chair enlighten the group on the importance of giving and placed a challenge to continue supporting our local college students.

October’s Student of the Month and a scholarship recipient, Corey Moore, addressed donors and formally thanked them for their support. Moore, a Brunswick Community College Men’s Basketball player hopes to earn a degree in nursing.  His desire is to give back to his community and help others.  The event concluded with BCC Alumna, Cynthia Tart.

The Foundation was created in 1982 as a 501(c) (3) charitable organization designed to support the overall mission of the college and to help assure open access to higher education for prospective students throughout our community. The Foundation is a vital recourse for the solicitation and acceptance of all donations and gifts, private or public, in support of education and continued growth of Brunswick Community College.
