BCC Graduates Class of 2022

May 6, 2022 – It was a fantastic afternoon, and a packed house at the Odell Williamson Auditorium as Brunswick Community College (BCC) held its 43rd Commencement — the largest in the school’s history. The Class of 2022 represents 383 exceptionally bright young men and women. Today, they received 452 Associate in Arts, Associate in Engineering, Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science degrees; Diplomas; and Certificates. Graduates included Brunswick County Early College High School students and high school students who attended BCC as part of the Career & College Promise program.

BCC President Dr. Gene Smith presided over the ceremony. Commencement speakers included graduates Lance Anthony and Destani Taylor.Lance Anthony is the 2022 Outstanding Student-Athlete award recipient and a two-time Academic All-American. Lance served as Point Guard for our Men’s Basketball and consistently maintained President’s List honors. Lance graduated with an Associate in Arts degree, Summa Cum Laude, and plans to attend UNCW to pursue a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.Destani Taylor started at BCC in July 2019. Throughout her journey, she persevered through several life setbacks and a pandemic. A dedicated student and proud mother of two, Destani graduated with an Adult High School Diploma and plans to continue her education to become a criminal profiler or business owner.Awards presented during the Commencement included the President’s Award, Academic Excellence Award, Dallas Herring Achievement Award, Robert W. Scott Leadership Award, Dinah E. Gore Excellence in Teaching Award and the Dinah E. Gore Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award.President Smith closed the ceremony with praise and thanks and reminded the graduates that they will always be part of BCC. “I believe that you have already set and accomplished goals, overcome barriers, and have the foundation of Brunswick Community College and the support that our college can provide as you move forward,” said President Smith​. “I sincerely congratulate you on today’s achievement and wish nothing but the best for you in the future.
