BRUNSWICK COMMUNITY COLLEGE SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH UNCW

BOLIVIA, NC – On Wednesday, October 4th, the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s (UNCW) Chancellor, Jose V. Sartarelli, signed an articulation agreement with Brunswick Community College (BCC) establishing a direct transfer opportunity for students earning an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Health and Fitness Science.   The agreement allows students to complete their Bachelor of Science degree through UNCW’s Exercise Science Program in the College of Health and Human Services.

University of North Carolina Wilmington is considered the state’s coastal university and is dedicated to the integration of teaching and mentoring with research and service. Brunswick Community College students taking advantage of the agreement will be able to transfer all academic credits earned at BCC with a grade of C or above toward completion of their Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science at UNCW.

Dr. Lois Smith, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, says “the agreement is a great opportunity for students receiving Associate in Applied Science Degrees in Health and Fitness Science to pursue a Bachelors Degree with all credits intact.” The Health and Fitness Science program at BCC is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the fitness and exercise industry. Students will be trained in exercise science and be able to administer basic fitness tests and health risk appraisals, teach specific exercise and fitness classes and provide instruction in the proper use of exercise equipment and facilities. Graduates should qualify for employment opportunities in commercial fitness clubs, YMCA’s/YWCA’s, wellness programs in business and industry, Parks & Recreation Departments and other organizations implementing exercise & fitness programs.
