Online Learning, State Authorization, and Professional Licensure

BCC offers a variety of online certificates, diplomas, or associate degrees programs that students can take fully online.  These distance learning programs are designed to offer alternatives to students who are unable to attend on-campus classes or those who may reside outside the State of North Carolina, including Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  In accordance with NC-SARA regulations, BCC is unable to offer courses to those who reside in California, American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Online Learning and Support Resources

Technical support is provided to all students through the Instructional Technologies office.  Assistance is available for usernames and passwords, email, Moodle, Self Service, and other BCC-provided technologies.  Students are encouraged to email brunsdl@brunswickcc.edu at any time or call 910.755.7390 during regular business hours.  Students wishing one-on-one assistance may come by the office (Room A-212) or request a video conference.

The North Carolina Community College System also provides 24-hour tech support for Moodle, 866-517-3537. Additional resources are provided in the Student Technology Orientation available on Moodle (no username or password required).  This orientation is available to anyone.  Additionally, once classes begin, a Digital Classroom Readiness unit is also available. Online programs make education possible for individuals who are working or unable to commute to the college. BCC provides a variety of online degree, diploma, certificate programs, and support services to help you succeed. Not sure where to start? Additional Costs and Requirements Associated with Online Courses
If you are taking an online course, please read the following information concerning additional fees and requirements students may encounter.
  • Distance Learning/Identification Fee: BCC does not charge a separate distance learning/identification fee to students.
  • Test Proctor Costs – BCC students taking BCC courses and testing at the BCC campus: BCC does not charge its students a fee for proctoring tests associated with BCC courses.
  • Test Proctor Costs – BCC students taking BCC courses and testing at another location: If a student must take a proctored exam and wishes to test at a non-BCC site, the student is responsible for finding an acceptable testing site and obtaining approval from their instructor. Additionally, any fees charged by the remote proctoring site are the responsibility of the student and these costs vay based upon the students’ chosen proctoring sites’ practices.
  • Additional Supplies Required: Some assignments require students to have a microphone and/or webcame to complete. Most laptops come with these pre-installed, but if your computer does not have them pre-installed, webcams and micropones are available at most office supply stores and others that carry computers and/or computer supplies. A webcam and microphone are required for tests that require the use of Respondus Monitor. (NOTE: If you are using a webcame, check that it has an integrated microphone before purchasing one separately.)
