Computer Application Training

Brunswick Community College’s Economic and Workforce Development Department offers educational training for the most popular computer software applications and productivity tools. If you are an employer and would like to have classes offered on-site, we can design training to fit your business training needs. Our courses include:

CompTIA A+

If you are getting ready for a career as an entry-level information technology (IT) professional or personal computer (PC) service technician, the CompTIA® A+® course is the first step in your preparation. The course will build on your existing user-level knowledge and experience with personal computer software and hardware to present fundamental skills and concepts that you will use on the job. In this course, you will acquire the essential skills and information you will need to install, upgrade, repair, configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and perform preventative maintenance of basic personal computer hardware and operating systems.
The CompTIA A+ course can benefit you in two ways. Whether you work or plan to work in a mobile or corporate environment where you have a high level of face-to-face customer interaction, where client communication and client training are important, or in an environment with limited customer interaction and an emphasis on hardware activities, this course provides the background knowledge and skills you will require to be a successful A+ technician. It can also assist you if you are preparing to take the CompTIA A+ certification examinations, objectives (exam numbers 220-901, 220-902), in order to become a CompTIA A+ Certified Professional.
This course is taught by a Certified CompTIA Computer Technician
Prerequisite: None.

CompTIA Network+ Security Certification

This course teaches you the skills and knowledge necessary to help prepare you to take the Network+ certifica¬tion exam administered by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). The Network+ certification program covers networking technologies most commonly used today. It also introduces the underlying concepts of data networking, such as the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model and the protocols that operate at the various model layers. Passing the Network+ certification exam means that you possess the basic knowledge and skills needed to work as a computer networking professional.

Computer Use Skills

This course is designed to provide employability skills training for adults who are unemployed, underemployed, or facing a career transition. Students will: develop a moderate comfort level of basic computer use skills; use technology to implement job search strategies; and compile employment-related documents (resume, cover letters).

Microsoft Office

This course will give you the basic skills needed to use Microsoft Office. In this course you will introduce individuals to MS Word for word processing, MS Excel for spreadsheets, MS PowerPoint for creating computerized presentations, MS Publisher for Desktop Publishing and MS Access for Database management. Book and flash drive are required.

QuickBooks Advanced

This course will prepare you to work more efficiently and accurately using QuickBooks Pro 2015. This course is for those individuals seeking to validate their skill and advance their careers. The credential enables individuals to tap the full features and functionality of the QuickBooks Software, resulting in increased academic and job performance, Individual differentiation and personal confidence.

QuickBooks for Beginners

This class is designed for beginners with little or no knowledge of the program. Participants will learn how to set-up a company, navigate through the program, use lists, pay bills, invoice customers, reconcile bank accounts, create an account for credit cards, and pay employees. Students should have basic computer skills. A flash drive required on the first night of class.
