Foundation of BCC Named Non-Profit of the Year

Congratulations to The Foundation of Brunswick Community College on being named the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit of the Year. Chamber representatives visited BCC this week to make the award presentation.

“We are thrilled and appreciate everyone who has supported and helped us along the way,” said Elizabeth Wassum, Foundation Executive Director.  “That includes  the BCC Board of Trustees, the Foundation Board of Directors, donors, supporters, advocates, faculty, staff, and friends and family. Our mission is to help our students, remove barriers to education, and create opportunities, so we are so pleased and honored.”

Brunswick Community College has a long tradition of providing quality educational opportunities for its students who contribute to the growth and development of Brunswick County. Organized in 1982, the Foundation is a charitable organization 501(c)(3) instituted to enhance the mission of Brunswick Community College to a level of excellence and purpose for students and the community. The Foundation is a vital resource for the acceptance and solicitation of all gifts for the continued growth and progress of Brunswick Community College. The Foundation enables the college to meet a number of diverse needs that could not be achieved solely with state funding.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors and volunteer directors as well as honorary, ex-officio directors. The college president and other key administrators also serve. Through advocacy, influence and financial support, these leaders ensure the commitment to the community college philosophy. They support the mission and enhance the goals and lives of the students. Because of the Foundation’s structure, friends and alumni are also involved in fundraising initiatives and asset management programs.
